Liberation

In the beginning of this month we always celebrate the liberation of Holland by the allied forces from Germany at the end of the second world-war.
In the museum i had to register a sack which came out of the air during that days with flower for baking our bread. There was a food-program and this aeroplane-'droppings' were a part of it.

Modern
Near the dike this new building is to be seen. Many people had comments: it was to modern. I always take my time for this, and after a while you get used to it and it even brings a nice silhouette in the sunset.

Knights

My Job in the museum brings sometimes nice surprising things when not expected. Work have to stop because i cannot put back away this book before examining all over.
It's from the year 1691 and talks about Knight-hood: ''Ridderschap'' in Dutch, and hand-written.

Pumps

Four Pumps from the ancient time. No longer in use, and many times replaced but still belonging to the town-sight.
I imagine the people who came here in the old days to pick up water and meanwhile talk about the latest gossips in town.
The one where i should take my water from if i lived earlier is the first one.

Rampart- Wall
The old town-wall who existed already a several hundred years is being repaired.
This is the last part of the job and i had to smile when i read the name of the architect: Mister 'shit-houses' or 'bad-houses' translated freely. The former Dutch inhabitnats can read it on the photo i took where you can read some information about all the works.

The carillion, Franz Lizst and Zaltbommel

A very old building: the former hospital had a chapel with a nice towercarillion. Nowadays the chapel is used for exhibitions and other events. The carillion is still to be heard in the weekends, played by a professional carillion-organ-player. At the whole hour a couple of puppets are showing up.
The famous Franz Liszt came by on a boat on the river the Waal and overheard the music; he stopped, looked after the music-maker and stayed in his house for a meal. The daughter could play the piano very well, and he insisted on teaching her, but in Paris, because that was where he was going after. There she met the later famous impressionist Manet and married to him in Zaltbommel! So this famous painter married a dutch girl out of Zaltbommel!
Nice story isn't it? and it is even true.
